Considering a Rhinoplasty? This Checklist Can Help

smiling-female-facePlastic surgery is always a process. This goes for any cosmetic or reconstructive procedure, even those that seem like just minor tweaks. In the case of rhinoplasty surgery to help alter and enhance the contour of a person’s nose, preparation is everything. And in my personal experience, a pre-surgery checklist like the one I’ve prepared below can be extremely useful for any patient trying to prepare for rhinoplasty surgery.

1.) Fully Understand The Benefits of Rhinoplasty Surgery

Rhinoplasty is a versatile procedure that can do far more than just make a person’s nose smaller, which is a common misconception. When performed by an experienced, board-certified plastic surgeon like myself, rhinoplasty can alter the size and shape of the nose to create a more balanced facial appearance. It can also be used to address certain breathing issues including a deviated septum and structural breathing obstructions.

2.) Determine Your Aesthetic Goals

What specifically do you want to achieve with rhinoplasty surgery? Are you interested in altering the size or shape of the nose (or both)? Are you hoping to help your nose fit in more symmetrically with your other facial features? And will your goals require additional facial procedures like chin surgery or eyelid surgery in order to fully achieve your aesthetic goals? These are all very important questions to consider and have answered.

3.) Confirm if You Are a Good Candidate for Rhinoplasty

To begin with, any person considering a rhinoplasty procedure should be in good enough health to safely undergo the surgery. Once this has been confirmed, I always discuss all the options that my patients have to alter the contour of their nose, including the possibility of non-surgical rhinoplasty using facial filler injections.

4.) Choose The Right Plastic Surgeon With Rhinoplasty Experience

Any plastic surgeon you consider to perform your rhinoplasty procedure should be board-certified and have years of experience performing rhinoplasty. But this is just the start. You’ll want to find a doctor that you are comfortable with and makes you feel confident and emboldened throughout the entire process. It’s also essential to see before and after photos from previous rhinoplasty surgeries to confirm that they are a good aesthetic match with your preferences.

Plastic Surgery for Men: What are the Top Procedures?

Much like their female counterparts, men are interested in achieving a more vital and younger-looking appearance with the help of facial rejuvenation and body contouring procedures. Today I wanted to take a deeper look into the most recent statistics collected by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) to see which cosmetic procedures men are most commonly interested in undergoing.

Rhinoplasty

According to the numbers, rhinoplasty is hugely popular among male patients. Dating back to 2020, roughly 65,000 rhinoplasty procedures are performed on men in the US each year. Rhinoplasty is used to help guys alter the size, shape, and/or contour of the nose, to help them achieve a more balanced and symmetrical facial appearance. It is also one of the cosmetic procedures that can be performed on males under the age of 18.

Eyelid Surgery

Another very commonly performed facial surgery, eyelid surgery (also known as an eyelid lift) was #2 on the list. Eyelid surgery for men accounts for over 45,000 procedures each year in the US. The goal of male eyelid surgery is to provide subtle tweaks to the area around the eyes, and provide a more alert and refreshed appearance without sacrificing any of the patient’s more masculine facial features.

Liposuction

The most popular body contouring surgery for men, liposuction accounts for nearly 23,000 male procedures annually. Liposuction is used to help male patients remove small patches of unwanted fat that accumulate over time. The most common areas for male liposuction include the back, chest, flanks (love handles), abdomen, and neck, but the procedure can be used to remove fat from all over the face and body.

Breast Reduction + Breast Lift

Undergoing a breast reduction and breast lift together can help women achieve a more modest, natural-looking, and perkier breast contour than they desire. In fact, it’s somewhat rare for women who undergo a breast reduction not to also have their new breasts lifted in order to ensure that their breasts are properly positioned following surgery. During this combined procedure, excess tissue is removed from the breast, and then the remaining breast tissue is surgically lifted to a more natural position for the patient’s body.

Chin Surgery + Rhinoplasty

The balance of a person’s facial features can be delicate, meaning that when one feature is altered with surgery, the face may require additional assistance to maintain balance and symmetry. This is why it is fairly common for patients to combine rhinoplasty with chin surgery, in order to achieve a more balanced, rejuvenated appearance.

While the combined surgery approach may not be right for every patient, there is no denying the immense benefits that it can provide in many cases.
