Using Fat Transfer During Breast Reconstruction: The Beauty in Technique

Through years of refining my breast reconstruction techniques, I have found fat transfers to be beneficial in accomplishing and improving the ideal results of breast reconstruction. For example, let’s examine TRAM flap reconstruction, which uses skin, fat, blood vessels and muscle from the abdomen, back, thighs or buttock to replenish breast tissue that has been removed. Fat transfer can be used to supplement a TRAM flap procedure and other reconstructive options to provide smooth, natural-looking results. Fat transfers work by removing fat using liposuction on areas of the body such as the abdomen, buttocks, or thighs, then re-injecting into another area of the body once purified. Patients benefit from the combination of fat transfer and breast reconstruction because it requires less steps in the surgical process and reduces potential risks as the breast is composed of a patient’s own material.

Addressing Signs of Aging with Brow Lift

While facelift surgery is a great option for certain individuals to address overall sagging of the face, it is sometimes unnecessary for those who are only looking to relieve a drooping appearance in the upper area of the face. In these particular cases, a better option is often a forehead lift, also known as a brow lift. These terms are frequently used interchangeably and can provide patients with a natural, more energetic appearance. During the actual procedure, I make very small incisions within the hairline or natural creases of the face to allow the tissue and muscle to be repositioned without noticeable scars. Over decades of practice, I have performed over 2,000 breast augmentation procedures and developed my skills through continuous research and implementation of the latest plastic surgery technologies. However, with any surgery, regardless of whether or not you visit a board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon, there are inherent risks when introducing foreign objects into the body.

When you undergo breast augmentation, FDA-approved saline implants or silicone implants are positioned to enhance the appearance of the breasts. In rare cases, scar tissue can become tough and form tightly around saline or silicone breast implants over time in a condition known as capsular contracture. It’s important to note that breast implants themselves do not become hard, rather the scar tissue is what composes the hardness. There are various ways to avoid capsular contracture, one of the most important being to choose an experienced surgeon who provides you with the proper post procedure care guidelines.
