Trying to remove unwanted fat can become very challenging for many people as they age. Even for those who maintain a healthy diet and exercise regularly, it can be virtually impossible to shed stubborn, excess fat from certain areas of the body just by eating right and working out. Whether this means a bit of persistent fat that accumulates around the waist or a belly “pooch” that emerges after pregnancy, it’s quite common for patients to turn to cosmetic surgery to help refine their appearance by trimming their waistline.
But which cosmetic procedures can help with this aesthetic challenge? I would typically recommend a tummy tuck or liposuction (or possibly both). Both of these body contouring procedures can help patients achieve a shapelier waistline. A tummy tuck can be an excellent way to flatten your abdomen. During the procedure, excess skin and fat are removed from the abdomen and the abdominal muscles are tightened. I often perform tummy tucks on female patients who wish to reduce the appearance of that belly “pooch” and other post-pregnancy effects on their figure.
Additionally, liposuction may be the most precise way to reduce unwanted areas of fat from the waist area. The abdomen, waist, and hips are among the most common places for fat to accumulate. Undergoing liposuction on these stubborn areas can sometimes be the most surefire way to help remove fat and improve the contour of your waistline. Check out the video below where I explain how I use liposuction to treat excess fat around the waist:
In some cases, a tummy tuck and liposuction can be combined to achieve even more comprehensive aesthetic results.
