Ask Dr. Elliott: Questions on Cosmetic Surgery for the Face

In the past, some cosmetic surgery patients may have been hesitant to undergo a procedure for the face, despite their desires. After all, discretion and privacy are highly valued commodities for many plastic surgery patients. However, thanks to decades of progress in the world of cosmetic surgery, surgical procedures for the face can offer many patients aesthetic alterations that are more subtle and natural-looking, while also providing results that can be truly life-changing. When trying to look your very best and improve your self-esteem, there is no better place to start than with the face. With this in mind, I have taken some time to answer a few questions I have received from patients about a few of the most popular cosmetic procedures for the face.

Ask Dr. Elliott Questions on Cosmetic Surgery for the Face

Question #1: Is the recovery from a short scar facelift shorter than a traditional facelift?

One of the many added benefits of my signature short scar facelift is that it is a minimally-invasive procedure. Since a short scar facelift uses local anesthetic and Quill™ knotless sutures, patients generally need considerably less downtime for recovery than they would with a traditional facelift. However, every patient is different and recovery may vary from patient to patient.

Question #2: Is there much risk of visible scarring after ear surgery?

Cosmetic ear surgery, or otoplasty, can be a great way to help patients who want to improve the shape, position or proportion of their ears. Just like any other cosmetic surgery, scarring is a common concern for patients undergoing ear surgery. However, thanks to the small incisions made in the back of the ear, visible scarring from ear surgery is typically minimal. For patients who require their incisions to be made in the front of the ear, I make every effort to make them as discreet as possible to help limit visible scarring.

Question #3: Is a rhinoplasty purely a cosmetic procedure or can it have medical benefits as well?

In addition to providing outstanding cosmetic results for patients who would like to alter the size, shape, or contour of their nose, rhinoplasty surgery can offer some patients a number of additional medical benefits too. Rhinoplasty can be an effective way to correct a deviated septum, a condition in which the bone and cartilage that divide the nasal cavity is crooked or off-center, as well as other common breathing issues caused by structural nasal obstructions.
