The 5 Rules for Choosing Your Best Plastic Surgeon

Seeking the most aesthetically-appealing results is only one part of the equation when it comes to plastic and reconstructive surgery. Being well-educated about your chosen plastic surgeon is one of the most important things you can do for yourself to not only increase your chances of obtaining your desired outcomes, but protecting yourself. In fact, I recommend anyone interested in pursuing plastic surgery to first diligently research to find a credible surgeon and review their certifications, training, and previous experience. Below, find a few tips for choosing the right plastic surgeon for you.

  1. ASPS-Pink-Ribbon-LogoFind a surgeon who emphasizes safety. With over 25 years of surgical experience, I prioritize your safety with every procedure I perform.
  1. Prioritize board-certification in plastic and reconstructive surgery. For example, I am board certified in plastic and reconstructive surgery by the American Board of Plastic Surgeons (ABPS). I am also an active member of numerous medical associations, including the Southeastern Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons, American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, and the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons.
  1. Consider a surgeon with extensive training in the specific area you’re interested in addressing.  When beginning the research process, it can be helpful to first review the surgeon’s website and their results gallery to get a more accurate idea of real-life results from a prospective procedure. Don’t hesitate to ask for additional photos during your consultation—many plastic surgeons are proud to show results.
  1. Use your consultation time wisely. During an in-office consultation, you will have the opportunity to ask any questions you need answers to. Don’t be afraid to go in-depth and discuss your concerns.   I encourage my patients to ask questions to gain a comprehensive understanding of the procedure(s) and to make sure they’re at ease with my approaches.
  1. Find a surgeon involved in and mutually respected by the community. I currently serve as the Emeritus Director of the Atlanta Breast Symposium and frequently travel around the world to conferences to teach and demonstrate advanced surgical techniques.
