Breast Revision Surgery Explained

Breast revision surgery is often recommended for patients who have had issues with their implants or natural changes in breast tissue due to weight-loss or childbirth. Dr. Elliott has found that some of the breast revision patients he meets are not satisfied with their results from their first surgery. For this reason, Dr. Elliott encourages patients to do their research before pursuing cosmetic surgery and always consult with a board certified plastic surgeon who has ample experience in the procedure they are considering.
Other common reasons for breast revision surgery include implant deflation, capsular contracture, desire to change implant size or type, or a combination of issues. Although, breast augmentation complications are rare, the tissue around the implant can tighten and scar tissue can develop, resulting in discomfort or an abnormal appearance. In these rare cases, breast revision surgery is imperative to restore symmetrical, natural-looking breasts.
During breast revision surgery, Dr. Elliott will make an incision to replace the original implant or address the present issues. When possible, Dr. Elliott uses the original breast surgery incision to minimize additional scarring. Depending on your unique case, breast revision surgery may be performed at the same time as a breast lift to address loose and saggy skin.
